Amazon Fire TV upgrades with 4K TV support

Responding to Apple's move with the fourth generation Apple TV, here comes Amazon. Its new Fire TV Gaming Edition combines the new Amazon Fire TV, a game controller, 32GB microSD card, and two included games: the indie hit Shovel Knight and Disney’s remastered Duck Tales for $139.99.

The 4K capable streaming media box packs in a quad-core MediaTek Quad-Core (up to 2 GHz. Dual-Core @ 2.0 GHz + Dual-Core @ 1.6 GHz) processor and dedicated Imagination PowerVR GX6250 graphics engine for 75% more processing power, 2x GPU performance. It has 8GB internal storage and expandable microSD storage up to 128 GB, Bluetooth 4.1 support and Dolby 5.1 audio.

The second generation controller comes with Alexa voice search/control button built in and claims 90 hours of battery life from a pair of AA cells. So, are these devices really selling? With the line up of new Kindle tablets, the pressure is certainly on within Amazon's own product line, never mind all the other Android boxes out there.

FYI, there's no sign of the bundle in the UK. with the standalone Fire TV for £80 and the controller for £40, making it a rather less appealing £120 with no games and a memory stick to buy.
